Voddie's an awesome speaker & teacher. His words are so true! Too many churches nowadays (like too many parents) want to be "cool" and forget that if anything, Jesus' commission was the OPPOSITE of being cool. James 4:4 says "do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God".
Why is it when we go against God and suffer punishment we have the audacity to shake our fist at God and wonder how He could "ever let this happen" to us? When, it's our own doing. I like the way the verse above is phrased, "makes HIMSELF an enemy of God"........God doesn't leave us, we leave Him!
